SIMWESTMED “Var” case study – French stakeholders meeting, Aix-en-Provence, January 29th 2018
January 29, 2018
Together with Conservatoire du littoral, PAP/RAC organised a meeting about the ‘Var’ case study of the SIMWESTMED project, on January 29th in Aix-en-Provence. This event wass in line with the French consultation to the definition of the Common Regional Framework on ICZM for the Mediterranean in the framework of the Barcelona Convention.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss the two topics of focus for PAP/RAC within the project: (i) Land-sea interactions and (ii) governance. Participants to the event were key stakeholders and project partners: French authorities from national, regional and local levels, public bodies, research institutes, etc. Partners discussed strength and weaknesses of existing and planned management policies and their articulation at different scales and transboundary level, in the context of the national process of the definition of Strategic Seafront Documents (DSF), being the French translation of both MSFD and MSP EU Directives.
To steer the dialogue, and provide PAP/RAC with inputs for the ‘Var’ case study, participants discussed tools and procedures – including their development and strengthening – that help manage the interrelationships between maritime and coastal ecosystems and marine activities.
